The Department of Defense has unveiled its restructured budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year, marking a historic pivot away from traditional ground combat investments and heavily leaning into cyber warfare and space defense capabilities.
At a press conference at the Pentagon, military leaders outlined the necessity of adapting to modern geopolitical threats. The proposal requests an additional $40 billion specifically allocated for the US Cyber Command and the rapid development of hypersonic missile interceptors.
While defense contractors have welcomed the pivot, the budget has sparked intense debate in the Senate Armed Services Committee, with some lawmakers arguing that traditional naval and troop readiness programs are being dangerously underfunded.
