American sprinter Noah Lyles shocked the track and field world by shattering the 200m record at the latest Diamond League meet. Running a blistering 19.15 seconds, Lyles looked unstoppable as he pulled away from a world-class field coming off the bend.
The performance puts the rest of the world on notice as the summer season ramps up. Lyles’ start was explosive, but his top-end speed in the final 50 meters was completely unmatched.
“I knew I had something special in my legs today during warmups,” Lyles beamed in the post-race interview. “We’ve been tweaking my mechanics, and everything just clicked. To see that time on the clock is a dream come true, but I know I can go even faster.”
